Final 2009 Work

This was my final piece for Mixed Media, it's about 22x30 inches. The medium is charcoal on printmaking paper, with the usual mess of other materials I like to throw on (ink, various papers, stones, lace, fabric). It's continuing in the vein of exploration of identity, sexuality, and power through self-portraiture I've been working on this semester. More to come on that.

Encaustic Tests

These are encaustic (melted wax medium) and other mixed media and pigments, all on wood panels. The process is certainly time consuming, with a large learning curve, but the medium of encaustic is wonderfully versatile! Some of the materials I've used include lace, photo copy transfers, string, and oil sticks.

Spring Quickstudies: Homeworks

This painting was inspired by Hammershoi. His interiors are luminous; both complex and amazingly simple. Beautiful. So I painted a corner of my room, also as a sort of self-portrait.

Homework from photos and life, completed in 30-90 minutes.

Spring Quickstudies: In Class

In class paintings, completed in 25-40 minutes from the model.
